The City of Americus contracts for garbage and trash pickup. (All garbage and trash are picked up once a week.) Household garbage must be bagged prior to being placed in the wheeled container for pickup. Separate piles should be made for bagged yard waste and limb piles. We require that all leaves, grass clippings, pine straw, and hedge clippings be bagged (in regular leaf bags or smaller). 

 
Following is a list of rules for Trash Collection:
 
q Grass clipping, leaves pine straw and hedge clippings must be bagged.
 
q Limbs 5 inches or less in diameter cut no longer that 5 feet.
 
q Limbs 6 to 12 inches in diameter cut no longer that 1 foot - maximum weight 50 lbs.
 
q Limbs must be placed at curb in a neat pile.
 
q Material such as lumber, shingles, plaster, metal, plastic, appliances and furniture in a separate pile
 q CONCRETE, BRICKS, CEMENT BLOCK , DIRT, OR STUMPS WILL NOT BE PICKED UP
          or limbs bigger than 12 inches in diameter.
 
q TIRES MUST BE TAKEN TO A TIRE RECYCLER
 
q THE CITY DOES NOT PICK UP CONTRACTOR DEBRIS OR DEMOLITION DEBRIS
