This is free of charge to gas customers. If you think you smell gas inside or
outside your residence you may call Natural Gas Services between the hours of 8 and 5
Monday through Friday at (229) 924-7224. After hours, contact the Americus Fire and
Emergency Services at (229) 924-3213 or call 911.

That's right, natural gas, in its
natural form has no odor! The distinctive smell you
recognize is actually added by the gas company to help you
detect gas leaking into the air. This harmless odor, kin d
of like rotten eggs, is
called mercaptan.
